To build any web application you need a database. This database is the storage that the web application uses to store information related to the application and retrieve it.
Why MySQL –
MySQL is still the most popular database that you can build a web application with. Usually we use MySQL to build the application and later if we feel that we need a different database we switch to that database within the same implementation.
Any popular CMS or web framework uses MySQL to store it’s database. Thus It’s Essential to building a new project or application.
Let’s begin a step by step guide of How to Download and Install MySQL Database Server on your Windows 10 / 11 Computer.
Step 1
Goto this link -> https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/installer/
On this screen Click on For 288.6M “Download” Button
After Download is completed, Click on Downloaded File and Allow Yes etc. to get to Installation Screen
Step 2
After you get to Installation Screen
Keep Pre-selected [ o Server ] Option and Click Next -> Since we are using mysql for local computer and for development project
Next Screen – Installation – Click “Execute”
After It’s Complete – Click “Next”
Next Screen – Product Configuration – Click “Next”
Next Screen – Type and Networking – Click “Next”
Next Screen – Authentication Method – Click “Next”
Next Screen – Accounts and Roles – Enter [MySQl Root Password] your choice of password Twice -> This password is useful if any bugs occur in MySQL and we need to debug MySQL database
And Click on “Add User” Enter username eg. yournameuser and enter your choice of password twice and click “Ok” -> We Will use this user to add settings to Laravel config file to let Laravel app to use MySQL database for storing it’s tables and data
After User is Added and Showing in the Users List
Click “next”
Next Screen – Windows Service – Click “Next”
Next Screen – Server File Permissions – Click “Next”
Next Screen – Apply Configuration – Click “Execute”
After you Click Execute you will see the installer executing the list of programs or operations
Click Finish.
On Next Screen Click Next and Again Click Finish.
Now MySQL Is Running on your computer.
You can check this by going to Windows Search, type Services and When Shown Click on Services.
Scroll the list of services and you will find service by Name – MySQL80
See Screen on Next Page
From this screen you can Start / Restart or Stop MySQL Server if you later face any MySQL related Error your Web Application / Project.
